The Reading PAW-trol Program

📚🐾 Introducing the Reading PAW-trol Program! 🐾📚 The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is proud to introduce our newest community initiative, The Reading PAW-trol Program, designed to encourage literacy, build confidence, and create positive experiences for young readers.

This program pairs students with specially trained therapy dogs, creating a calm and welcoming environment where children can read aloud without pressure. Sometimes the best listener is a furry friend who simply enjoys the story.

The Reading PAW-trol Program is a collaborative effort in conjunction with the Roanoke Public Libraries and TheraPets of the Roanoke Valley, Inc., with support from Roanoke City Public Schools and Shield Chap. Together, we are working to strengthen reading skills while fostering meaningful connections between students and community partners.

At the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office, we believe public safety also includes investing in the future of our community. By supporting literacy and creating positive engagement opportunities, we are helping young readers grow in both confidence and curiosity.
