Honored to Be Recognized: Award for Creativity

The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is proud to share that our Blue Envelope Campaign has been recognized by the Blue Ridge Public Relations Society of America with the 2025 Summit Award – Silver for Public Relations Campaign and the Lin Chaff Award for Creativity.

These recognitions celebrate the collaborative work that went into raising awareness and educating our community about Virginia’s Blue Envelope Program, a law designed to help individuals with autism or communication-related conditions have safer, more comfortable interactions during traffic stops.

While we are grateful for the awards, the true success of this campaign lies in the impact of the law itself. The Blue Envelope Program provides a simple but powerful tool that helps autistic drivers/passengers  communicate important information to law enforcement in a clear and respectful way, promoting understanding, patience, and safety for everyone involved.

This campaign reflects what community engagement is all about: listening, educating, and working together to create solutions that strengthen trust and improve public safety.

We are grateful to our partners, advocates, and community members who helped bring this initiative to life.

💙 Because communication matters.

💙 Because understanding matters.
